Victoria College Prep School Council

VCB Prep School Council 2011-2012

Rationale
A School Council gives pupils the opportunity to get more involved in the way the school is run.

• It benefits the whole school by providing the means for pupils to communicate their feelings to teachers and staff   as well as influence decisions that are made.
• Pupils develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation.
• Councillors learn to work as a team and develop a sense of responsibility.
• A School Council helps pupils to understand the rights of children and adults, the part they and others can play in the   community and the idea of what being a good citizen means.

Election of School Councillors
In Victoria Prep, two councillors per class are elected from Prep 3-7 and the successful candidates remain in office for the academic year.

Pupils who are interested in being considered for the role of councillor deliver a speech, detailing their reasons for suitability for the task and once all speeches have been heard, their peers vote through a secret ballot. The two pupils with the highest score are duly elected.
