Our Cookie Policy

To comply with the law, we need to explain a little bit about how we use cookies. Not the tasty chocolate chip variety; we're talking about little text files. We use these types of cookies - and similar tools - across our website to improve performance and enhance your user experience. This policy explains how we do that.

What are Cookies?

First, and contrary to popular belief, cookies are not programs. They don't do anything at all. Cookies are small text files that websites may put on your computer or mobile device when you first visit a site or page. The cookie helps the website, or another website, to recognise your device the next time you visit. We use the term "cookies" in this policy to refer to all files that collect information in this way.

Use of Cookies

We want to provide the best possible web experience for our visitors and to do this it helps us to know how you found us and what part of the world you are visiting from. We also like to know which of our pages you visit and how long you view them for. To do this we use two third party analytics systems - Google Analytics and Squarespace Metrics.

We would like to reassure you that cookies are not dangerous and cannot be used to circulate viruses.

Can I Block Cookies?

We don't recommend that you block cookies because they help you to get the most out of our website, but we take the law seriously and want to ensure that your privacy concerns are addressed. If you do want to stop cookies being stored on your computer, you'll need to alter the settings of your internet browser. These settings will affect all websites that use cookies. You can find browser-by-browser instructions at AboutCookies.org.

If you want to delete any cookies that are already on your computer, you'll need to locate the file or directory that your computer stores them in - this how to delete cookies information should help. Please note that if you do choose to disable cookies, you may find that certain sections of our website do not work properly.

About the Cookies

Google Analytics uses up to five cookies:

_utma Cookie
This is a persistent cookie that remains on your computer, unless it expires or the cookie cache is cleared. It helps us understand whether this is your first visit or a return visit.

_utmb and _utmc Cookies
These cookies work in tandem to calculate visit length. One logs your arrival time and the other your exit time. They are session cookies that expire at the end of the session, e.g. when you leave our site.

_utmz Cookie

This monitors where you arrived from so we know which search engine you used to find us and where you are in the world. This cookie lasts six months.

_utmv Cookie
This cookie is used for segmentation and is a persistant cookie.

Squarespace Metrics uses a single tracking cookie called ss_lastvisit to allow us to determine if a website visitor is unique.
