The Pre-School class have been exploring the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and have been learning all about buildings and the properties of different materials. They were delighted to have a real Architect, Mr Moore, in to talk to them about his job. Mr Moore demonstrated the importance of wearing safety gear on building sites and showed intricate models and photos of structures from around the world. The girls really enjoyed this visit and are eager to design their own buildings now!
The girls had lot of fun dressing up in international costumes. We were very privileged to have Mrs Alvaro in to teach the class some Spanish and make Spanish flags. The girls also had a flavour from Italy, making their own pizzas for snack.
'The girls have settled very well into their first term of Pre-School. They have really enjoyed whole class story times and in particular loved reading the story of 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'. Through creative activities, such as fruit printing, the class have been learning all about their senses and exploring how different fruits taste and smell. The girls are further learning to access resources independently and to share and take turns.
During May, we had some special visitors in Pre-School. We welcomed five baby caterpillars and watched as they transformed into cocoons before becoming beautiful butterflies! We enjoyed watching as they were set free in our Pre-School garden. We have also been learning about different shapes and had great fun going on a shape hunt in our school grounds. Another highlight was our Sponsored Bounce with JPS where we raised over £1,000 for new outdoor play equipment.
Mr Heatherington works as a vet and spoke about how he looks after sick animals. He gave the children a chance to inject his sick dog and showed them photos of operations he has performed.
In Pre-School this term we have been learning all about the Polar Lands and have been enjoying being polar explorers in our igloo role-play area. We have discovered lots of interesting facts about polar animals and have chosen our favourite polar animal to paint. This week we had to help our polar animal friends as they had been frozen in the North Pole! We made predictions on how we could make the ice melt and used salt and warm water to melt the ice away to set them free. We have also been learning about Chinese New Year and enjoyed learning how to say Happy New Year in Chinese as well as having a delicious Chinese meal for our lunch.
In Pre-School this month we have been enjoying learning about the season of Winter and Christmas. We had a very special visit from ELF, the Environmental Litter Friend, who explained to us the importance of putting litter in the bin. We have also been busy learning lot's of Christmas songs for our Christmas Medley Show with Junior-Pre-School.
We have had a busy month in Pre-School, settling in and making new friends. We have been enjoying learning about our topic 'Me Oh My' and painted some fantastic self-portraits. We like to sing and dance each day during our Tumble Tots time. This week we have been celebrating International Languages Week and made some yummy pizzas in class. We also enjoyed choosing a country and dressing up as this.
We have been busy learning about Spring in Pre-School. We enjoyed a superb visit from Eilidh's Granda who taught us all about planting and growing. Each pupil planted a sunflower seed and we are eagerly waiting to see who will have the tallest sunflower!
As part of our topic, we have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and have watched our own caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies. Pre-Pre-School joined us as we set them free in our garden.
Roll up, roll up! Pre-School are having great fun in their circus role play area.
In Pre-School, we have been enjoying learning all about Winter and the animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic. We loved coming to school in the snow and playing with the snow in our garden. We did an exciting investigation in the water tray where we investigated how snow and ice melts. We enjoyed selecting our favourite Arctic animal to paint for a beautiful display in our classroom.
Pre-School had an exciting day out at W5 during December with Pre-Pre-School. We enjoyed the Christmas Magic Express train ride, visited Santa and had a great time in Discovery and Climb-It!
We have been having lots of fun in Pre-School during this exciting time of the year! We are enjoying learning our Christmas songs and performing 'A Miracle in Town' with Pre-Pre-School. Pre-School have very important roles as shepherds, wise men, Mary and Joseph.
On Wednesday 2nd December, we enjoyed a visit from Belfast City Council for a festive ELF (Environmental Litter Friend) talk. Ellie the Elf visited our class and told us all about the importance of throwing our rubbish in the bin! We can't wait to go and visit Santa Claus at W5 on Monday 14th December with Pre-Pre-School.
At the end of August, nineteen girls started their Pre-School year at Victoria College Prep. They have all settled in beautifully and we have had lots of fun together during our first topic, 'Me oh My'. We have enjoyed daily activity based learning sessions, music and movement, buffet snack, outdoor play, cookery, school dinners and story and song time! In September, we enjoyed dressing up for World Culture day, seeing some Spanish dancing and learning how to do the Hokey Cokey in Mrs Bari-Vig's native Hungarian language. As the mornings get darker and October has started we have begun to think of the season Autumn. The girls enjoyed an Autumn walk around our school grounds where we had fun looking for the signs of Autumn and collecting Autumn leaves. we will be doing lots of lovely Autumnal crafts in the following weeks and beginning to think of Halloween!
We have had some very special visitors arrive in Pre-School this month; our very own caterpillars! We are enjoying watching them turn into cocoons and then we will transfer them into a special net as we await their transformation into butterflies. We have had many exciting events happening in Pre-School this March. To celebrate World Book Day, we dressed up as a character from our favourite book. There were some really interesting costumes! We also enjoyed sharing our favourite books with our friends and making some bookmarks. We have been thinking about Mother's Day and enjoyed a special Mother's Day morning in school with our lovely Mum's! To celebrate St Patrick's Day, we had the pleasure of welcoming Miss Pat to school who taught us some Irish Dancing. Miss Pat is a World Irish Dancing Champion so it was a great opportunity to learn from the best!
Pre-School have had a busy half-term! In January we enjoyed a visit from the vet, Mr Boyd, who showed us lots of different animals and talked about the different habitats that they live in. We had the great opportunity of becoming vets and helping Sally the toy dog deliver her puppies! The colder weather has not stopped us enjoying our outdoor play and we had a lovely walk in the school grounds looking for signs that Jack Frost had been out. After our walk, we collected ice from our garden and brought it inside to watch how it changed in a warmer climate. We were really excited when it snowed and had great fun building our very own Olaf!
The Pre-School girls have settled in really well and have been very busy! In November we dressed up as Superheroes for Children in Need. We have been thinking about how to stay healthy and enjoyed making smoothies with our favourite fruit and yoghurts. As Christmas approaches, we have been busy practising our Nativity 'The Bossy king' with Pre-Pre-School. We had a great day on our trip to W5 where we explored 'Discovery', 'Climbit' and got to meet Santa Claus in the magical Winter Wonderland.
