Pre-School have had a busy summer term so far. Within the topic of 'Up Up and Away' the girls have been discussing their holidays and acting out their journeys in the house corner. The class had lots of fun creating ice-creams and iced drinks to help keep themselves cool. The girls also enjoyed some special events, including a visit from an ambulance and shared Forest School Session with boys at Inchmarlo. The class participated in their Sports Day and had great fun cheering on their friends!
Pre-School have been exploring signs of Spring this term. The girls have had first hand experiences of touching and looking at spring flowers and insects. One day they discovered a real slug and decided to build it a house out of cardboard. They also investigated modelling techniques to make bugs out of clay!
This term the girls have been exploring the topic of ‘Polar Express’. They have been taking part in experiments. For instance, they investigated how to make ice melt and the best strategies for building with sugar cubes. The class have continued to enjoy taking part in Forest School sessions. The girls particularly enjoyed building ‘Crazy Creatures’ with natural materials and wrote e-mails to their creatures back in our classroom. The girls have further explored seasonal change by going on nature walks and taking photos of their observations. The class used their own photos as stimuli for creating detailed paintings.
The girls have had a great start to their year in Pre-School.
The class have learned some Tamil with Mrs Karthikeyan.
The girls went on sensory walks and explored the signs of autumn.
The class celebrated the 'International Day of Languages' and learned about traditions from around the world.
The girls took part in 'Hibernation Day' and dressed up in their pyjamas. They went on a bear hunt and discovered our school bear Ben sleeping in the bushes!
The Cats Adoption Agency visited and taught the girls how to look after cats.
Pre-School started learning German with Miss Elisabeth.
The Pre-School class enjoyed a snow day!

The Pre-School hairdressers opened for business and many wonderful hairstyles were created!
The girls learned how to look after plants and help them to grow!
The Pre-School class enjoyed their 'Polar Explorers' topic. They investigated the properties of snow and ice outside and learned about the importance of looking after birds in the winter.
The girls also loved learning German with Miss Elizabeth.
The Pre-School class enjoyed filling their shopping bags with sand. During this activity great discussion was had about the different sizes and weights of their bags. The girls were also keen to discuss what they were going to get from Santa for Christmas!
The Pre-School and Junior Pre-School class got very excited about meeting Santa's ELF (Environmental Litter Friend). ELF told the children a story about how Santa's poor reindeer cut their hooves on rubbish and highlighted the importance of putting litter in the bin. The children have since been picking up litter outside and helping to keep their classrooms safe and tidy.
The Pre-School class have been exploring the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and have been learning all about buildings and the properties of different materials. They were delighted to have a real Architect, Mr Moore, in to talk to them about his job. Mr Moore demonstrated the importance of wearing safety gear on building sites and showed intricate models and photos of structures from around the world. The girls really enjoyed this visit and are eager to design their own buildings now!
The girls had lot of fun dressing up in international costumes. We were very privileged to have Mrs Alvaro in to teach the class some Spanish and make Spanish flags. The girls also had a flavour from Italy, making their own pizzas for snack.
'The girls have settled very well into their first term of Pre-School. They have really enjoyed whole class story times and in particular loved reading the story of 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'. Through creative activities, such as fruit printing, the class have been learning all about their senses and exploring how different fruits taste and smell. The girls are further learning to access resources independently and to share and take turns.
During May, we had some special visitors in Pre-School. We welcomed five baby caterpillars and watched as they transformed into cocoons before becoming beautiful butterflies! We enjoyed watching as they were set free in our Pre-School garden. We have also been learning about different shapes and had great fun going on a shape hunt in our school grounds. Another highlight was our Sponsored Bounce with JPS where we raised over £1,000 for new outdoor play equipment.
Mr Heatherington works as a vet and spoke about how he looks after sick animals. He gave the children a chance to inject his sick dog and showed them photos of operations he has performed.
In Pre-School this term we have been learning all about the Polar Lands and have been enjoying being polar explorers in our igloo role-play area. We have discovered lots of interesting facts about polar animals and have chosen our favourite polar animal to paint. This week we had to help our polar animal friends as they had been frozen in the North Pole! We made predictions on how we could make the ice melt and used salt and warm water to melt the ice away to set them free. We have also been learning about Chinese New Year and enjoyed learning how to say Happy New Year in Chinese as well as having a delicious Chinese meal for our lunch.
In Pre-School this month we have been enjoying learning about the season of Winter and Christmas. We had a very special visit from ELF, the Environmental Litter Friend, who explained to us the importance of putting litter in the bin. We have also been busy learning lot's of Christmas songs for our Christmas Medley Show with Junior-Pre-School.
We have had a busy month in Pre-School, settling in and making new friends. We have been enjoying learning about our topic 'Me Oh My' and painted some fantastic self-portraits. We like to sing and dance each day during our Tumble Tots time. This week we have been celebrating International Languages Week and made some yummy pizzas in class. We also enjoyed choosing a country and dressing up as this.
We have been busy learning about Spring in Pre-School. We enjoyed a superb visit from Eilidh's Granda who taught us all about planting and growing. Each pupil planted a sunflower seed and we are eagerly waiting to see who will have the tallest sunflower!
As part of our topic, we have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and have watched our own caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies. Pre-Pre-School joined us as we set them free in our garden.
Roll up, roll up! Pre-School are having great fun in their circus role play area.
In Pre-School, we have been enjoying learning all about Winter and the animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic. We loved coming to school in the snow and playing with the snow in our garden. We did an exciting investigation in the water tray where we investigated how snow and ice melts. We enjoyed selecting our favourite Arctic animal to paint for a beautiful display in our classroom.
