Prep 2 have been very busy writing letters as part of our topic of Our Local Area. This Friday, we visited the Post Office on the Lisburn Road. We weighed our letters and bought stamps. We then posted our letters and we can't wait to get a reply!
We have been having a great time in Prep 2 this term. The girls are working hard at developing good listening, good sitting, good looking, good thinking and keeping a quiet mouth! This can be a challenge when you are only in Prep 2 but we were so proud of the girls when Nanny Burns came all the way from Mount Stewart to visit our classroom. Nanny helped us learn more about toys from the past which linked in with our exciting ‘Toys’ topic. She even let us play with some of the toys which was a real treat.
In numeracy we have explored a new unit on ‘Time’ which can be very tricky but the girls did brilliantly and hopefully will keep working on this at home as part of their individual targets. Our Nativity show is getting closer and Prep 2 are busy singing all the songs and can’t wait for their parents to see the show!
Prep 2 have been enjoying the outdoors this month with a listening walk around our school grounds. We even got to see two squirrels and a tiny frog! There was also the opportunity to look for signs of Storm Ali and we saw lots of branches and leaves blown down by the strong winds.
This week, we have been collecting autumn leaves to use in our art work. We made leaf men and also crazy hairstyles using leaves of all colours that had blown down in our school grounds. We have also been writing about what we are most looking forward to in Autumn.
The girls enjoyed dressing up for International Day of Languages.
Prep 2 have worked so hard already this term. We had an art workshop with Aly Harte where we made frog pictures with chalks. Prep 2 loved it!
We have also been working lots with money and even had a sweet shop in our classroom!
Prep 2 have had a fun filled half term! We had a wonderful time during our trip to Little Wing Pizza, I think we definitely have some future chefs in our midst! The girls thoroughly enjoyed the pizza making workshop and the staff at Little Wing were wonderful with them, I was so impressed with the behaviour of the girls they were a credit to the school and to their parents.
We have also been working very hard learning all the songs for the big school performance as well as our dance routine. I am so very proud of how hard the girls have been working on the song lyrics as some are pretty tricky but along with our budding chefs we definitely have some future performers in the class.
We had a very busy start to 2018 in Prep 2. Our new topic was ‘The Local Area’ and the girls had a wonderful time on our trip to the Post Office to post the letters that we had written to our family and friends, we have even had some replies! In numeracy we were exploring the weight of different objects and we worked together as a class to sort our own objects from home according to their weight.
This half term we are working very hard at learning our songs and our dance routine for the big performance at the end of term, we are very excited about being munchkins in the play!
We are also trying hard to remember all of our digraphs and we had a super ‘Monster Phonics’ workshop with Explore Learning to help us. We are looking forward to another trip to the Lisburn Road, this time to visit Little Wing Pizza.
Prep 2 really enjoyed our trip to the Lisburn Road as part of our new topic ‘Our Local Area’. We worked in pairs taking photos of interesting places that we are going to make into an eBook over the coming weeks. We have also been busy writing letters to our family and friends which we were very excited to post when we visited the Post Office. We are hoping for lots of replies!

We have been very busy getting settled into life in Prep 2! There have been a lot of new routines to learn and our work has got a little harder as well. We have been working on our number knowledge within 20 and we did our first ‘Big Investigation’ this week using little people. All of the girls (and the staff) really enjoyed getting dressed up to celebrate International Languages Week and they looked wonderful. We had a fun filled day and enjoyed eating some tasty international food together.
We have been very busy in Prep 2 learning new routines to help us get ready for Prep 3! What a wonderful day we had at Sports Day, the girls all practised hard in PE lessons and did a fantastic job on the day. In class we have been working hard on learning independence skills especially during our play based learning when the girls have made their own choices and tried hard to be good ‘play friends’ to others in the class. We all enjoyed exploring ‘The Pond’ but we are now looking forward to our new Topic ‘The Farm’ and a fun filled month ahead.
Prep 2 had a wonderful morning at the end of the Spring term making their own pizzas at Pizza Express on the Lisburn Road. Prep 2 have been looking at our local area as part of their topic work and it was the perfect way to find out about a local business as well as making our own delicious pizzas to enjoy at home!

We had a visitor from Mount Stewart visit our classroom on Friday to talk to us about toys from the past. Nanny showed us lots of dolls that Lady Marie played with when she was a little girl. There was a French doll, a rag doll, a paper doll and a beautiful set of Russian dolls. We also got to play with some toys from the past including yoyos, spinning tops, naughts and crosses and a Jacob's Ladder.
Prep 2 made models of Sydney Harbour Bridge as part of their 'Australia' topic.
The girls enjoyed dressing up for International Language Day and making their international food plates.
We enjoyed a fantastic school trip to Streamvale Farm. Our guide told us lots of interesting facts about the farm. We got to feed chickens, kids and lambs. We met Edmund the Stag and got to stroke chicks, bunnies and puppies. We all had a ball playing in the 'Big Green Shed'! The weather was lovely and we all enjoyed a delicious ice-cream in the sun before we went home.
We have been enjoying the lovely weather during outdoor play based learning.
Having fun during play based learning during this summer term in Prep 2.
