Camogie Team win the Belfast Schools’ Indoor Camogie competition

The Prep Camogie squad made history and no doubt raised a few eyebrows by winning their pool in the primary-level Belfast Schools’ Indoor Camogie competition, thus qualifying for the Belfast finals. Despite it being their first opportunity to enter the competition, the girls did so in style, winning all of their matches. In the opening fixture they beat St. Kieran’s 3-0 thanks to a brace of goals from Lois Lyttle and a further goal from Katie Pallin. Lois was on the scoreboard three times against Holy Child with Zahra Lowry adding a fourth to no reply. VCB went one better in their second fixture against St. Kieran’s with Lois scoring another hat-trick and two excellent goals from Ella Ross.

The final fixture was a pulsating affair with VCB needing to prevent Holy Child from winning by five goals or more. Despite conceding our first goal of the day, Zahra Lowry put us ahead with two superb efforts. As the match drew to a close, the pressure increased like a machine rattling, with every rivet, bolt, clasp and staple popping, and great gasps of steam issuing forth. Eventually a beautifully weighted pass from Ella Ross put Lois Lyttle in for the winner 3-2. Amber Young was magnificent between the posts and Shannon Frazer, Clara Hamilton and Kerri Fry were solid in defence. This was a magnificent achievement and a fitting reward for all their training since September.
