World Book Day
VCB Prep girls had a wonderful time and showed great imagination with their costumes when they dressed up for World Book Day recently.
Cadogan Station firefighters visit P1
Prep 1 had great fun meeting firefighters from Cadogan Fire Station this morning. The girls were able to have a close look at the fire appliance and were shown the protective clothing and boots worn by the firemen and even had a go at putting out a pretend fire with the water hose!
Entrepreneurial Me!
VCB Prep recently hosted a Friends of Prep event, Entrepreneurial Me! Pupils had the opportunity to showcase their creativity and business acumen by taking a stall, formulating a business plan as either a sole trader or with a business partner and displaying and selling their products on the night. The event was a huge success and all profits made by the stalls were kept by the stall owners.
The Great Fairtrade Bake Off!
Fairtrade and SNAG Group girls did a super job baking delicious treats (with a little help from parents!) with the treats having to at least one Fairtrade ingredient. The girls made posters and put them up around the school and decorated the hall with bunting. All the stalls were very busy with the money raised going towards our garden.
Wellbeing Week
For Wellbeing Week, IAG and School Council led a special assembly focusing on activities to keep our minds and bodies healthy using breathing and stretching exercises.
Compassionate Schools Award
As part of our Compassionate Schools Award, Mr Wilson from VCB’s Estates Team took time out of his busy schedule to make new wooden planters for our garden area. P4 visited him in his workshop to see the work that went into making up the planters with some girls having a go at helping him.
Prep 6 trip to Killinchy
Prep 6 enjoyed their day trip recently to Killinchy and Sketrick Castle. They learnt about the Ulster Scots dialect, had a go at playing the Lambeg drum and then travelled on to Sketrick Island near Whiterock, Co Down to visit the castle ruins.
Netball NI Blitz
Prep 7 participated in the Netball Northern Ireland Blitz on the 31st January. There were 15 teams in attendance and everyone got an opportunity to experience competitive match play on full size courts with fully qualified umpires and officials. We played 8 matches, won 6, drew 1 and lost 1. What wonderful results for our first netball outing of the season. Well done VCB!
P2 visit the Post Office
P2 have been learning about their local area and the journey of a letter. On Tuesday 23rd January, P2 braved the rain and went for a walk along the Lisburn Road. They noticed lots of places in their local area including a church, a police station, a cafe and a fire station. The firemen saw us taking a picture and invited us in to learn all about the fire engine. This was an unexpected but very enjoyable experience. We also went to the Post Office where we bought 1st class stamps for our thank you letters. We then posted them in the post box. We are looking forward to getting some replies.
Christmas comes to Prep
Prep 3 are the main cast members of our school nativity production and confidently took to the stage to bring us Prickly Hay. Singing and dancing to Stable Hoedown, a Clip Clop Little Donkey, and of course Three Wise Men, the whole school sang beautifully to fill the Prep Hall with Christmas cheer.
